Caroline Jane Lindholm was born on November 20th 1944 in the Bronx from immigrant parents. Her mother Rose(neé McCabe)Lindholm was born in 1908, was from Carrickmacross, County Cavan, Ireland, and her father, Ernest Lindholm, a machinist by trade, was born in Eskilstuna, Sweden in 1907, about 70 miles West of Stockholm, Sweden. Caroline had a younger sister, Rose Lindholm Jortner who passed away two years ago in 2021.
Caroline grew up in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx in an apartment on 144th and Willis Avenue and attended St. Pius Church and school. Later, the family relocated to the Fordham Road section of the Bronx and Caroline attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School and was Class Valedictorian in 1962. She took some time off from school but returned to get a Bachelor's Degree from Lehman College in 1969. After graduating from college she started working at the NYC Department of Probation as a Probation Officer later in that year.
I was employed by the New York State Courts System as a Uniformed Court Officer in 1973 and met Carol in the courtroom that our supervisors assigned us. Over a period of several years we dated in the 80's and got married in 1987, in Las Vegas. We had purchased our house three years earlier in Scarsdale Village, Quaker Ridge School District.
We had tremendous vacationing experiences. We traveled to Sweden, and Ireland where her family originated and a dozen other European countries. We vacationed in the Bahamas where my parents were born. I was pleased to take my mother with us after we retired. We would be in Fort Lauderdale in the cold winters and Cape Cod, Newport or the Berkshires in the Summer. We didn't get cheated in life and had many, "Trip of a Lifetime" vacations.
I miss my Caroline.
