Eleanor was born in Bronx New York on December 30, 1926 to Rosa Basile and Arthur Valenzisi. She was preceded in death by her loving and comedic husband Louis A. Papantonio. Eleanor will rest beside him at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla New York.
Eleanor worked at American Can Company as an Executive Secretary for many years. She was also a successful entrepreneur throughout her life as a stamp collector and dog breeder. Her dog grooming shop was her pride and joy in Tuckahoe, New York. She called it V.I.P.Grooming – Very Important Poodle. She also had a talent and passion for home decorating and took pride in her original, splendid window treatments and dried wreaths which are still in perfect condition. She designed wreaths for her friends after drying the muted pink Hydrangea flowers from a large bush in her yard. A great cook, Eleanor continued to prepare her own meals and keep a well appointed home in Crestwood.
She always had many fun stories to tell of how she and her husband Louis would ballroom dance every weekend and attend costume parties with their many friends. The family would like to thank her loving friends for continuing to take her with them to lunch every Thursday despite her visual and hearing impairment. Ellie, so she liked to be called, was a slight woman with a healthy appetite, a good sense of humor and tremendous fortitude who lived life on her own terms. She was never a quitter and always set her expectations high.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Scarsdale at 11AM.
