Evelyn J. Lesch passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27th at 7:00pm at the age of 98. She resided at the King Street Rehab nursing home in Rye Brook, NY for the past 2 years. She was a resident of Scarsdale, NY for 40 years. In 1995 Evelyn and her beloved husband Robert (Bob) moved to Wykagyl Gardens Apts. in New Rochelle where she lived until 2013.
The youngest of three, Evelyn was born on February 29, 1920 to Katherine and Ferdinand Modest. They lived in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx where Evelyn graduated from high school and then attended Hunter College in Manhattan. She met her future husband Robert Lesch at a church dance and they were married on May 30, 1943.
Evelyn was a long-time member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Scarsdale Women’s Club and Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. She was a volunteer at St’ Agnes Hospital for over 20 years.
Evelyn is survived by her three children Susan Carr, Robert (Sandy) Lesch and Richard (Katherine) Lesch, 6 grandchildren (Courtney, Whitney, Tyler, Jackson, Clara, Dylan) and 4 great-grand children (Kelsey, Kendall, Keely, Luke). She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2005, her sister Rosemary Fusselman (1959) and her brother Otto Modest (2001).
Evelyn was a stylish dresser, a good dancer (thanks to Bob) and a great and loyal friend to many. She had a quick tongue and a devilish sense of humor. Though she outlived all her contemporaries, she will be missed and fondly remembered by the multiple generations of friends who shared in her warmth and good cheer.
There will be a visitation at the Edwin L. Bennett funeral home, 824 Scarsdale Ave., Scarsdale, NY from 4pm -8pm on Friday June 8th 2018. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday June 9th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 Carman Rd., Scarsdale, NY interment Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye.
