Harry Gerald Hill III (known to all as “Gerry”) passed away peacefully at his home on December 15th, 2025. He was sixty-four years old. Gerry was living in White Plains at the time of his passing, having moved there recently after living in Scarsdale for 25 years. Gerry led a life filled with joy, humor, and lots of music, and he will be missed terribly by all who knew him.
Gerry was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 8th, 1961, to Harry and Harriet Hill, who raised him alongside his sisters Grace and Irene. Gerry had a sense of discipline and a strong work ethic instilled in him from a young age that he would carry with him all his life. He spent most of his formative years in Garden City, NY and attended Garden City High School, where he excelled as a soccer and baseball player.
After visiting the campus with his mother, Gerry decided to attend Franklin & Marshall College, from which he would graduate in 1983. During his college years Gerry became immersed in what would become a lifelong passion: weightlifting, which he took up competitively. Among other accolades, Gerry took 1st place at the 1982 Pennsylvania Collegiate Powerlifting Championships in the 198-pound weight class, and placed 7th in the country at the Collegiate National Championships. At his peak, Gerry had a combined bench press, deadlift, and squat of over 1,750 pounds.
Gerry met the love of his life, Margaret Muller, in 1989 and quickly found himself “head-over-heels”. Usually a reserved and cautious person, Gerry took a big risk after his 3rd date with Margaret when he told her he thought that she was “the one”. Gerry’s bold gambit paid off in spades when Margaret told him she felt the same way about him. Their next nearly 37 years together, 35 of which were spent as a married couple, were an embodiment of true love and partnership. Gerry and Margaret built a beautiful family and life together, filled with love, joy, and laughter. They were a “team” in the truest sense of the word, and gave all of themselves to each other in everything they did.
Gerry’s true star turn came when he became a father in 1992 (Kevin) and again in 1995 (James). Gerry played a huge role in the lives of his sons and in the community they were raised in. He coached his boys and their friends in soccer, basketball, and baseball, was a Cub Scout den leader, and was a constant presence at sporting events, concerts, or anything else Kevin and James were involved in. He also was a merciless (but loving) editor for all their high school papers and essays. Gerry gave Kevin and James the type of childhood that everyone should be fortunate enough to have. He was a real-life superhero to both his sons, who will continue to idolize him as long as they live.
Gerry’s love of music played a huge role in his life. He owned over 2,000 albums and CDs, each of which had a special place in his heart. Gerry was a musician himself who played several instruments, including the guitar, dulcimer, and uilleann pipes. In his later years he played the piano almost exclusively, and loved playing and listening to the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Gerry also cared deeply about his professional life and career, the majority of which was spent at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Gerry spent more than 20 years with BCG, making lifelong friends before retiring as a Senior Writer in 2021.
Those who knew Gerry well also counted him among the funniest people they ever knew. His humor could be described as quick, witty, and self-deprecating (critics might also use the word “juvenile”, though he would scoff at this notion). His ability to make others laugh is one of the things he’ll be best remembered for.
In the last few months of his life, Gerry became a grandfather. While his time as “Gramps” was short-lived, Gerry adored his grandson Connell and talked about him incessantly. He spent a week in November of 2025 with his grandson, filled with beautiful moments and memories that his family will cherish forever.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Margaret, his son Kevin and daughter-in-law Cecilia, his son James and daughter-in-law Kristen, his grandson Connell, his sister Grace and brother-in-law Bill, his sister Irene and brother-in-law Ed, his aunt Elizabeth, and his many nieces and nephews.
Gerry’s family invites you to join them at a celebration of his life at the C.V. Rich Mansion (305 Ridgeway, White Plains) on Saturday, January 31st from 1-4 pm. Family members will be sharing brief tributes to Gerry at 2 pm. Guests can arrive and leave at any time, and the atmosphere will be joyful, with food and drinks being served (guests do not need to wear black).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s name can be made to Children Incorporated (PO Box 72848, North Chesterfield, VA 23235), where Gerry and Margaret have been sponsoring children for the last 19 years.
