Joan Sheehey, a long-time resident of Scarsdale, died on Saturday, April 21. She was 90 years old. When Joan was four, she moved to Scarsdale with her family, Frank J. Trautwein, who later became the floor manager of the New York Stock Exchange, and his wife Elsie. She attended Edgewood School and Scarsdale High School, from which she graduated in 1945. Later that year, Joan married John Sheehey, also of Scarsdale, who died in 1994.
She had two sons, Paul of Hyde Park, NY and Philip of Timonium, MD.Joan was involved in many local activities, including the Woman’s Club, the Cub Scouts, St. James the Less, and inter-faith groups. When her sons had grown, she decided to take a job at Scarsdale Dental Group. She worked there for over 30 years, beginning at the front desk and eventually becoming office manager.
In addition to her two sons, Joan is survived by her two daughters-in-law, Elisabeth and Bridget, and four grandchildren: Riley, Connor, Brogan, and Maeve.
Those who knew Joan will always remember her energy, her ready smile, her carefully coordinated wardrobe, and of course, her sunglasses. She will be missed. To honor Joan’s memory, you are invited to make a contribution to St. James the Less, the church where Joan was married
