Obituary of John Paul FitzMaurice
John Paul FitzMaurice, 77, passed away Monday April 13, 2020.He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary FitzMaurice, and by his siblings Maureen and David. John grew up in Scarsdale and was a long-time resident of Crestwood and of the Adirondacks. He is survived by his wife Anne Marie, his six children Kaitlyn (Raymond), Brian, Matthew (Sara), Annemarie (Christopher), Mary (Andrew), Sarah, his sister Denise, and brother Gregory, his grandchildren Nicole, Taylor, Elijah, Tarquin, Michael, Zachary, Erin, Aidan, Jack, Madeleine, Emma, Amelia and great grandson Jonathan. John was a graduate of Immaculate Heart of Mary Grammar School, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Fordham University and Marquette University Law School. John was a member of the bar in Wisconsin and New York and practiced law in Manhattan and Westchester County. In his years practicing law, John gave much of himself to clients and friends often using a barter system which sometimes meant artwork in lieu of payment. He was a man of great intellect, legal skill and was also known both for his kind heart and stubborn ways which served him well in the courtroom. Outside of his law practice John could be found honing his creative skills in photography, fly-fishing in the Bouquet River, angling for bass in a small lake or sailing his boat in a brisk wind. His family has fond memories of his search for the perfect fishing lure and from the learning curve that comes with navigating a sailboat in a storm. As skilled an attorney as John was, he was an even better person. He served his family, friends and community as a former member and officer of the Tuckahoe Eastchester Lion’s Club and a former member of the Annunciation Men’s Club, but was best known for the way he went the extra mile for his family, friends and clients.
