John Lelia, born on December 7, 1918 in New York City, the son of Italian immigrants, passed away on January 25, 2021 at the age of 102. John served in the United States Army, alongside his brothers, as a Combat Medic Specialist, in Germany and France from February 4, 1943 through January 15, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He received numerous medals for his service and bravery, including the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Combat Medical Badge. John was employed as an electrical worker and was a member of the Electrical Union Local 3 for 66 years. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine Lelia, to whom he was married for 66 years. He was a devoted father of Rachel Lelia-Schwartz and her husband Steven Schwartz, Anthony Lelia and his wife Margaret Lelia. He was a loving grandfather of John Lelia, Theresa Bergen, Michael Lelia, Matthew Schwartz, Christine Lelia, Jaclyn Schwartz and Andrew Schwartz and great-grandfather to Jake Bergen, Atticus Tapia, Joshua Schwartz and Lucas Bergen. John is also survived by his sister Lucy Pizzo (Lelia). He was a loving and caring man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
