Lucille Margaret Mahnen of Eastchester, New York, passed away on Sunday, January 16th at the age of 82. She was the darling wife of Paul, best mom in the whole world to Donna, Linda, and Barbara, awesome grandma to Dylan, Isabelle, Gabe, and Julian, and amazing mother-in-law to Patrick and Insoo.
Lucille was born on June 28, 1939 in Hicksville, NY the beloved only child of Angelo and Sophie Aqualina. She and Paul were married in 1961 and enjoyed 60 happy years of marriage celebrating this milestone anniversary with all of their children this past August.
She graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and was a teacher on Long Island and in Westchester for 20 years while raising her three wonderful daughters. She later worked for Westchester Lighthouse as coordinator of the vision screening program and retired after 15 years of service.
Lucille enjoyed travelling with her family, especially to Italy, playing tennis and Words with Friends, reading, ballroom dancing, and the arts. She also loved to give back to her community by delivering Meals on Wheels and through her dedication to the Scarsdale Women’s Club and the charities they supported.
She was known for her kindness, generosity, and tolerance, her thoughtfulness and her ability to listen and love unconditionally. She is a bright and shining star that touched many lives and will be missed immeasurably.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 20 at 10:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, New York. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19th from 4:00-7:00pm at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral home in Scarsdale. Burial will follow the funeral service at Locust Valley Cemetery, in Locust Valley, NY where she will rejoin her parents. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Edwin L. Bennett Funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to non-profits Lucille regularly supported: Feeding Westchester or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Calvary Hospice, whose support provided comfort to her and her family in her final days.
