I echo the words of Peter Grilli. He put into words what is in my heart.

Marie was a beloved aunt to me, and she and her late husband, my Uncle George, were always the relatives I felt closest to. Marie was beautiful and loving, and feisty too, with a wit and sense of humor that always enlivened any situation. Although my branch of the Grilli family lived in far-off Japan, whenever any of us visited New York Marie and George were always quick to open their home to us, making it "our home away from home." On certain occasions when we really did need a roof over our heads -- like when I came from Japan to start college in the U.S., or when I and my wife spent several weeks house-hunting in the New York area and seeking to make a new home of our own -- it was Marie and George who took us in, housed us, fed us, and generously made their home ours.

My first memory of Marie was her wedding to Uncle George. I wasn't there physically (because I was already living far away) but we saw photos a week or so after the blessed event. Marie was a gorgeous bride, and she and George looked like they had just stepped out of a Hollywood movie! They were a stunning couple at their wedding and they remained a stunning couple throughout their wonderful married life of more than 70 years. Marie and George were beautiful, outwardly and inwardly!

Marie was a wonderful mother to my three cousins: Barbara, Richard, and Joan. Sadly, she outlived two of her children: Richard, her youngest child, passed away much too young; and Barbara, her oldest, died only a year ago. Marie's faith kept her strong and resilient through her tears as she buried first her baby boy Richard, then her beloved husband George, and finally her loving daughter Barbara. Everyone who knew Marie will miss her deeply, but I know that her beauty, her generous maternal love, and her personal strength will be a continuing inspiration to me and my wife -- and to all of us!
