On July 24, 2025, May Sicilian, with her loving family by her bedside, peacefully left this world at the remarkable age of 101(and a half!). Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished most. From her Bronx beginnings to a century of unforgettable moments, May’s story was one of grace, humor, and heart.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Charles M. Sicilian, and together they built a beautiful life. They raised three remarkable children—Leonard (Karen), Peter (Gene), and Susanne (Holmes)—and if you asked her, they were her greatest accomplishments.
May was the proud big sister of Peter Marino (Rose) and adored her grandchildren: Greg (Alison), David (Sara), and Vikki. She absolutely lit up when her two great-granddaughters, Maeve and Natalie, came into her life. Add to that a large crew of nieces and nephews she loved like her own—too many to name, but you know who you are!
During World War II, May did her part for the war effort, working for the Red Cross and the New York Port of Embarkation in Brooklyn. Later, she traded office life for marriage and motherhood, then returned to the workforce as the school librarian and secretary at Holy Cross School in Clason Point, Bronx, NY. She loved the students and faculty, and they loved her right back.
Faith was the foundation of May’s life—she prayed every day and trusted deeply in God. Her devotion was quiet but unwavering, and it guided the way she loved and cared for others.
May had simple joys that made her smile—Harlequin romances, Hallmark movies, Judge Judy, dinners out, and fun adventures with the Sacred Heart Leisure Club. Above all, she loved her family and friends fiercely and unconditionally.
She’s now reunited with her beloved Charles, her daughter-in-law Veronica, and many dear family members and friends who went before her.
May was truly beautiful inside and out. She taught us that life is best lived with love and humor. We’ll miss her laugh, her hugs, and her incredible spirit.
Now she is on her final journey, where she can show off her meatballs she ultimately mastered in her later years—for which we are all grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital: https://www.stjude.org
