After graduating The Mary Louis Academy and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, she married Henry Tyrrell Vagt Jr. (Terry) in 1951. Miriam taught special education in the NYC Public Schools for 30+ years; after she retired she and Terry spent much of their time on Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks. She was preceded in death by her beloved Terry and her son Kevin Robert Vagt. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Graham Vagt and Janet Lydon Vagt Scully, another daughter and son, and her grandsons, Hunter Graham Vagt and Maxwell James Vagt. Throughout her life, Miriam was deeply committed to supporting quality education for young women and was very active in the alumnae associations of both her high school and college. She was also famous for the hundreds of gingerbread men she baked every Christmas.
