Rakesh was a well published and respected Finance Professor and Researcher. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur, India) with a B. Tech (Honors) Mechanical Engineering, Columbia Engineering School with a MS Operations Research, and Columbia Business School with a Ph.D in Finance. He taught at several schools, including Columbia Business School, and consulted with his business of Risk Return Consulting.
Even though he was an engineer, data scientist and finance guru by profession, his heart and soul was that of a poet, always quoting poetry and songs to his family and friends. He will be remembered as a dedicated father who enjoyed above all spending time with his children and family, and in particular being able to inspire and share his passion for higher education and academic achievement with them. He also loved to travel and spend time in Europe and the Caribbean, loved to cook and eat and share the simple joys of life with those around him…
Beloved husband of Laure, wonderful and proud father of his daughter Sara and his son Antoine, who both meant the world to him, Rakesh will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his great sense of humor, his big laugh and even bigger heart. A brilliant, sensitive and loving man who will be tremendously missed. We will forever keep you in our hearts. May you rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, an education savings plan has been created for both Sara and Antoine Bali. Contributions payable to “State Farm College Savings Plan” can be sent directly to:
