Rosalie T. Hallacy (née McKernan), 90, of Hartsdale, NY, passed away on Sunday, 2 February 2020. Rosalie was born in Manhattan on 20 March 1929 to Garrett McKernan and Catherine Agnes Chartres and grew up in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, graduating from St. Barnabas High School in 1947.

Rosalie is survived by her 7 children: Edwin (Minerva) of San Francisco, Stephen (Maritha and Adi Salote Samanunu) of the Fiji Islands, Thomas of Hartsdale, Rosemary of San Francisco, Cecilia LaPaglia (Jim) of Crestwood, Jeanne of Thailand and San Francisco, and Mary Anne of Albany, CA; her granddaughter, Tupou, of Washington, D.C.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is predeceased by her former husband of 26 years, Edwin Hallacy, and her 7 elder siblings: Bernard, Garrett, Sr. Mary Agnes Carmel, Elizabeth, Joseph (Pete), John, and Gerald.

Rosalie was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish for over 42 years, serving as Sunday School teacher, Parish Council member, lector, lay Eucharistic minister, and soprano in the church choir. A lifelong volunteer, she offered her services to many organizations, including the Girl Scouts, PTA, Graymoor, and Hospice of Westchester.

After working as a homemaker for many years, she returned to business in the mid 1970s, working for Young and Rubican Advertising in Manhattan before joining Reader’s Disgest in Pleasantville, NY where she was an editorial art researcher and volunteer tour guide for the DeWitt and Lila Wallace Acheson private art collection. In retirement, she pursued her many interests, traveling widely in the United States and internationally, and working as a docent for Historic Hudson Valley on the Rockefeller estate, Kykuit.

She loved gardening, swimming, golf, theatre, art, museums, animals, crosswords, storytelling, and a good party. By all accounts, she was a kind, compassionate, feisty, resilient, modest person of deep faith and great optimism.
