Thomas J. Murphy

Thomas Joseph Murphy passed away on Friday January 15, 2016. He was the son of Thomas and Maryanne Murphy. He grew up in Riverdale, N.Y. and attended St. Margaret of Cortona Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School. Thomas was drafted and entered the Navy in 1944. He resumed his education at Fordham University and went to Columbia University for his Master’s degree in education. He taught social studies in Junior High 125 in the Bronx and then became an Assistant Principal at I.S. 131 in 1967. He retired in 1991. He was an avid artist belonging to the Plateau Cirque Art Group in Bronxville.

He is survived by his wife Margaret of 48 years, his children, Kathleen Ryan (Davis), Thomas (Sinead), Meg (Joseph) Bernardo and Jennifer (Ralph) Annunziata. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2016 11:45 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church Scarsdale Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery Valhalla. Visitation will be on Monday January 18, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9PM.
