Janet grew up in South Orange, NJ as the youngest of three girls. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. She started her work career in banking. When she and Bob moved to Marlton, NJ to raise a family, she served as a Welcome Wagon Hostess then became the first director of the Burlington County Office on Aging where she developed the first Meals on Wheels program. She continued in her service to others and moved on next to be the director of the Burlington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Janet was an active member of the Marlton Baptist Church, PTA, and numerous other community organizations. She moved with her husband to Worthington, OH for five years before their dream of retiring in Florida became a reality. They moved to Indialantic, FL in 1985 where she lived until her move to Willow Valley in March, 2011.
Janet loved the Lord and loved her family and friends with all her heart. Wherever she lived, she served the community, always developed precious long-lasting friendships, and was blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday four years ago with a reunion with dear childhood friends.
She loved to swim, enjoying her pool in Florida, the lake at their cabin in Mountain Rest, SC (their summer place she referred to as her Heaven on earth) and the pool at Willow Valley. She was an avid Scrabble player, enjoying her last full game with one of her daughters just 3 weeks prior to her passing. Janet loved to read, and baked the best homemade pies!
Anyone who knew Janet loved her. She always had the most beautiful, positive , and appreciative outlook on life, telling us always how spoiled she was and how blessed she was, especially these last several years. She spent a lot of time reflecting on the many blessings in her life. Everyone who came in contact with her felt her joy, enjoyed her wit, and benefited from her kindness. Her family heard many words of love and respect and witnessed the kindness with which she was treated, because she was so deeply loved.
Janet was excited about being reunited with her husband and grandson in eternity and we know she is now saying, as she always did, "PRAISE THE LORD!"
A memorial service in her honor will be held in Florida at a future date, to be determined.
