

John Ammon Weidman, 85, of Lebanon, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Kathryn L. Shaak Weidman with whom he was married to for 62 years. He was born in Lebanon on January 29, 1928, a son of the late John Aaron Weidman and Margaret K. Eberly Smith. John was owner of John A. Weidman Contractor in Lebanon. He also built, owned, and operated Shady Oaks Campsite in Newmanstown from 1972 – 1994. He served as Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Bronze Star Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He was a 1946 graduate of Lebanon High School and was a 52 year member and past president of the South Lebanon Lions Club where he served in many capacities and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow. John also was a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge 226 F & AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and was a former Leader of Boy Scouts of America Explorer, Post 45 of Lebanon. He was a strong advocate for South Lebanon Township’s purchase of the land which became South Hills Park. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Paul D. Weidman husband of Joy Weidman and Brian J. Weidman husband of Kim Weidman both of Lebanon; grandchildren, Joshua J. Weidman husband of Ashley Weidman of South Portland, ME; Kaitlyn M. Day wife of Jonathan Day of Myerstown; Matthew J. Weidman and Amy E. Weidman both of Lebanon; great grandchildren, Tucker and Austin Weidman. He was preceded in death by step-father, Raymond Smith and step-mother, Geneva Weidman. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the St. Stephen’s Christian Fellowship Church, 1100 Hunters Chase Lane, Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment will be made in the Grand View Memorial Park. Masonic service will be conducted by Mt. Lebanon Lodge 226 F & AM on Friday at 6:45 PM in the church. Viewing will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday from 9 to 10 AM in the church.
