Alice McGillicuddy passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 7, 2026 at the age of 104. While Alice may have been the oldest resident in Scituate, she was more famous in town for her warmth, her smile, her kindness, and her generosity. She was born to Patrick McGillicuddy and Bridget (O’Connor) who both emigrated from Co. Kerry; they met in Boston and married here. She lived in Brighton, but from the 1930’s to 1950’s she and her family spent summers in Scituate. In 1957 her family permanently relocated to Hatherly Rd. in Scituate where she resided until shortly before her death. Alice was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Bridget and her stepmother Margaret (Manning). Also she was predeceased by her brother Thomas J. and his wife Mary McGillicuddy, her sister M. Patricia and her husband Richard Bowen and her nephew Mark Bowen. Alice was also predeceased by her aunt and uncle Hannah (O’Connor) and Jeremiah McGillicuddy and their children, her cherished cousins, Mary Crowley, John McGillicuddy, Rita Condon, Anna Marie McPeak, Thomas F. McGillicuddy, Geraldine Langdon, and Sheila Galligan. They all lived and worked together as one family, and they shared a unique bond. Alice was the last surviving member of this special family. Also Alice was predeceased by her close cousin in Ireland, Marie MacGillycuddy. Alice leaves her cousins Rita Raczynski and Walter O’Connor, eight nieces and nephews, twenty-three grand nieces and nephews, and four grand, grand nephew and nieces. Alice was a loyal alumna of Regis College, Class of 1944, and then she worked as a hostess with New Haven Railroad on the Boston-NYC line. Alice decided to return to MA for her family. She taught second grade at the Esten School in Rockland, and then she was a moderate special needs teacher; Alice enjoyed a legendary career in the Rockland district. Upon retirement Alice remained busy. She sang in the choir at St. Frances Cabrini Church, played bridge at the Senior Center, traveled, and loved reading, crossword puzzles,Sudoku, and word searches. Fiercely independent Alice lived a full life for her 104 years. Alice was especially proud of her Irish ancestry, and she remained a devout Catholic. Her faith provided her strength and comfort during many trials in her life.
The McGillicuddy Family would like to thank Kara O’Riordan and the personnel at Roche Bros in Marshfield, Christine Long of the VNA, the volunteers of Meals on Wheels, Deacon Rooney and the pastoral staff of St Anthony’s, and the staff at Life Care in Scituate especially Angela, Caitlin, and Tyler.
