Amy E. Downes

Amy E. Downes, 51, passed peacefully on September 27, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family, friends and caregivers. Amy taught us all a lesson in courage and grace throughout her life.

Amy was born in Boston and grew up in Scituate with the Minot crew. She spent cherished years on Martha’s Vineyard, as well as on Cape Cod. A 1982 graduate of Scituate High School, she also received a Bachelor’s Degree, magna cum laude in accounting from UMass, Dartmouth. She spent 17 years serving in the United States Army National Guard and rose to earn the rank of Captain. Amy was a valued employee of Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and had worked as a comptroller in the hospitality industry. A friend of Bill W, Amy loved to work out and enjoy its benefits.

Amy leaves her mother, Patricia M. (Cameron) Downes, Scituate, and her aunt, Anne (Cameron) Guiney, Canton. She was predeceased by her father, John J. Downes and her beloved fiance’ William L. Look.

She also leaves six siblings. They include: John of Florence, Peter and Kathy of Scituate, Paul and Ozzie of Lincoln, NE, Mary Anne and Matt Kackley of Upton, Andy and Maria of Portland, OR, and Matt and Tammy of Scituate. Her dear cousin, Anne Marley and her two children of Belchertown are also left.

She enjoyed spending time and laughing with her many nieces and nephews, as well as her grand nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Amy on Friday, October 7th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate Harbor, MA 02066. Donations can be made in Amy’s name to Scituate Etrusco Associates, P.O. Box 265, Scituate, MA 02066. www.scituateetrusco.com
