Arthur "Jay" J. O'Neill, age 87, of Marshfield, formerly of New York, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Jay was born March 1934. He was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth "Betsey" (Corcoran) O'Neill for over half a century. He was a loving father to Amy (O’Neill) Rojik and his legacy will be carried on by Amy and her husband Brian and Jay’s five grandchildren: Skylar, Jaycie, Jolie, Teijen and Eyreland.
Jay lived a full life, loved by all who met him. He loved the ocean and the beach and was fortunate to have spent 52 glorious years as a Jones Beach Life Guard. He was raised in Douglaston and Bayside and attended Union College before serving in the Navy as a pilot. He spent the past several decades living in Wantagh with his wife and daughter.
He finally won his battle against dementia and died peacefully surrounded by wonderful people. Through the last several years, he never lost his sense of humor, his recognition of his daughter and grandchildren nor his spirit. His warm smile, his bright blue eyes and his memory will live on in those who he touched in his life.
His family is extremely grateful for the outpouring of love, support and kind thoughts/words about Jay. They are grateful he had such a widespread impact for the better on this world.
A private interment will take place at a later date at Jones Beach on Long Island to celebrate the lives of both Jay and Betsey.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the O'Neill/Rojik family may be shared here in his online guestbook.
