Brian G. Draves

Brian G. Draves, 78, of Brockton, former longtime resident of Scituate, entered peaceful rest on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of more than 51 years to the late Carol Ann (Dischinger) Draves, who predeceased him in 2015. Devoted father of Christopher Draves and his wife Nicki of Brockton, Ann Flood and her husband Mick of Taunton, Andrea Draves of Dunkirk, NY, Heather Mickool and her husband Ryan of Dartmouth, Karl Draves and his wife Nicole of Pembroke and the late Scott Draves. Cherished “Grandpa/Papa” of Hannah, Mairead, Michaella, Tiffany, Jovan, Teresa, Kaydance, Coby and Grayson. Loving brother of Sue Ann Draves.

Born in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late George and Virginia (Brownell) Draves, Brian was a 1959 graduate of Dunkirk High School and went on to graduate from Gannon University in 1967 with his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his professional career working at General Electric in Erie, PA. After that, he worked for Boston Gear in Ohio, before being transferred to their office in Quincy, MA. He then went to work for Sigma Instruments in Braintree, MA and then Xynetics in CA before starting his own business, Master Associates, in 1985 selling motion control products for robotics, factory automation and medical applications. A former member of the Rotary Club of Scituate, Brian was an active member of the community, devoting much of his life to the Boy Scouts of America, serving in many capacities including Scoutmaster of Troop 5 Scituate for 8 years. He also served on District and the Council Training Committees and earned all 4 Wood Badge training beads. He was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver award, highlighting his exceptional character and distinguished service within his council. For hobbies, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Brian was a lifetime member of the Old Colony Sportsmen Association. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 18 from 4pm to 8pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Masks and social distancing are required. Due to limitations on gatherings, there may be a waiting period to enter the visitation. Funeral Mass for family and close friends on Friday, February 19 at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his late wife. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian's memory may be made to the Glastonbury Abbey (
