Carolyn graduated from Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee and attended the University of Arkansas where she met her husband Gail and was married in 1955. She was a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity since 1954. She was a Secretary, Homemaker, Avon Lady, and Bookkeeper for Hatherly Country Club. She started the Harbour Bookkeeping service with her daughter which is still in business today. Carolyn was a member of Harbor United Methodist Church in Scituate for 40 years and the church treasurer for close to 25 years. She was also the treasurer for the Friends of the Scituate Library for more than 20 years.
Faith and family were the corner stone of her life, as she and her late husband Gail believed faith and family go hand in hand. Carolyn cherished time spent with her family and friends. There was always a pot of coffee and good conversation waiting for those who dropped by. She took a genuine interest in the lives of everyone she met.
Carolyn is best known for her love for reading. As an avid reader she frequented the Scituate Library. Her favorite genre was mysteries. She was a volunteer reader for Mrs. Moynihan’s 3rd grade class at Cushing Elementary. She also enjoyed history, painting and knitting. When travelling, either locally or overseas, she would always make a point to visit historical sites. She enjoyed genealogy and researched both sides of the family, for this we are truly grateful for her dedication and perseverance.
The family will be receiving friends at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Harbor United Methodist Church Scituate, with internment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to The Friends of the Scituate Library or Harbor United Methodist Church.
