

Celebrating a life well lived – Catherine “Kip” Ahern age 90, passed away peacefully August 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Kip was a cherished member of the Scituate community, remembered not only for her kindness, energy, and sense of humor, but also for her strong spirit and love for family and friends.
Devoted mother of David Ahern & his wife Mary of Bradford, Stephen Ahern & his wife Karen of Scituate, and Karen Falvey & her husband Robert Falvey, Jr. of Weymouth. Proud Grammy of Ryan Ahern & his wife Lindsey, Matthew Ahern & his fiancé Tayla Conroy, Kaitlin Ahern & fiancé Andrew Johnston, Connor Ahern & Stephen Ahern, Jr, Kate & Robert Falvey III. And brother Bruce Keenan of Concord, NH.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Paul, with whom she shared almost 55 years of marriage. Loving daughter of the late Andrew & Edna (Decato) Keenan, sister to the late Maurice Keenan and Norma (Keenan) Taylor.
Born in Concord, NH, Catherine “Kip” Ahern grew up in the small, close-knit community of Penacook, NH. She graduated from St. John High School in Concord in 1953 and went on to study nursing at the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Manchester, NH, where she earned her degree in 1955.
After completing her nursing studies, Kip moved to Boston to begin her career at Beth Israel Hospital. It was during this time that she met Paul Ahern, who would become the love of her life. They married in 1960 and settled in Scituate to raise their three children together.
Kip fully embraced her busy family life, always making time to volunteer as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and to teach catechism classes. She continued working as a nurse, first at Cohasset Knoll and later as a traveling nurse with the Hingham VNA, where she spent many happy years.
Kip’s love of travel was evident throughout her life, and she truly enjoyed her European adventures. She was also an avid sports fan, cheering for all the Boston teams and attending many games. Staying active was important to Kip—she participated in dance classes, played softball, and bowled in various leagues over the years.
Her community involvement extended to being an active member of the “Friends of St. Frances” and the Scituate Senior Center, where she made lasting contributions and friendships.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, September 6th from10-11AM followed by a Memorial Service at 11AM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Burial will take place at the Cudworth Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Norwell VNA & Hospice.
