She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 12, 1939 to Majorie and Edward Wood.
Charlotte grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts where she met her late husband, Bruce MacPhetres. She was a graduate of Colby College where she earned her BA in Sociology. Charlotte and Bruce moved to Scituate in 1975. She was an active member of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate where she sang in the senior choir and founded the chime choir, which she directed for many years. At the age of 60 she earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Cambridge College She had a passion for working with children, especially those with special needs. Charlotte was an avid reader, knitter and gardener and she loved walking on Minot beach with her many adopted dogs.
She is survived by her brother Bob Meaney and his wife Donna, and by her four children: Scott MacPhetres and his wife Stacey, Wendy Hermance and her husband David, Susan Hodgkins, Amy Jenkinson and her husband William. She was incredibly proud of her eight grandchildren: Timothy, Emily, Nicholas, Matthew, Christopher, Andrew, Julia and Delaney.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of Cohasset for the wonderful care she received over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Scituate Animal Shelter
The family will hold visiting hours at the First Trinitatian Congregational Church in Scituate on February 6th from 1-3 in Rice Hall. Please wear a mask.
A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held at the church later this spring.
