Christine W. (Walsh) Packard Burrell – 82, of Scituate, passed away November 25, 2017 at the Hancock Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a 4 year battle with Alzheimer ’s disease and dementia.
Christine was born and raised in Brockton, the daughter of the late Christine (Ganley) and Harold Walsh. She graduated from Brockton High School in 1953 and went on to work as a phone operator in Brockton. She resided in W. Palm Beach, FL from 1960-1962, then in Dorchester before settling in Scituate in 1964, where she lived until moving to Hancock Park just over 3 years ago. She was employed at the Jesse McDougall Nursing Home in Scituate and the A&P grocery store in Cohasset. Before her retirement in 2003, she worked for more than 25 years as a postal clerk at post offices in Scituate, N. Scituate and Cohasset.
Christine would do anything for her kids and grandkids. An ever-loyal loyal Red Sox fan, she hated the Yankees and was so excited when the Red Sox finally broke the curse of Babe Ruth and won the World Series in 2004. She loved oil painting land and seascapes and portraits, one being of JFK. If there was one thing she loved to do most, it was her afternoon swims at her beloved rocky beach in the Shores Acres section of Scituate, where she would swim out to certain rocks: one of which we called stagecoach, because it resembled one to dive off of at high tide.
She will be remembered as someone who stood her ground and would never back down when something got her Irish up. She was also one of the most caring people and would always put everyone else ahead of herself.
Devoted mother of Ronald Packard and his wife Joan of Brockton, Susan White of Uxbridge, Debbie Kogut and her husband Peter of Uxbridge, Kathleen Quattlebaum and her husband Bob of Scituate and the late James Burrell.
Cherished grandmother of 8 grandchildren: Joshua and David Packard, Chris Chase and Aaron Diener, Jeffrey White, Katrina Belocas, Ryan and Mia Quattlebaum. Great grandmother of Olivia Packard, and Destiny and Savannah Chase.
She was the loving sister of Andrew Ward of Lake Havasu, Arizona and the late Mary Mack, William Ward, Ned Walsh, Ann-Marie Sheehan and John Walsh.
Visitation Monday, December 4, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate. Memorial Service at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 10 AM. Interment Private.
