Ed was born on April 8, 1936, in Scituate, Massachusetts and graduated from Scituate High School in 1953. Ed was a Private First Class in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. After his military service, he graduated with an associate’s degree from Burdette College in 1959. He worked for Hayden Stone Brokerage Concern in Boston. He married Carole Bienkowski on July 29, 1960, in Scituate. Ed earned his bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University in 1965. Ed and Carole later moved to Waterville, Maine, where they raised their family. During that time, Ed worked for Hathaway Shirt Company.
Ed and Carole later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked at Carter Children’s Ware and Digitel. They retired to South Carolina in 2008. During the summer months, they loved to return to Maine, to vacation in the beautiful state they had called home for so many years. They would be joined by their sons and extended family for joyous family reunions during those gorgeous summer months. In addition to travel, Ed’s hobbies included reading, playing tennis, and walking.
After Carole’s passing in 2023, Ed decided to return to his family home in his beloved Scituate in 2024. It was his desire to spend the rest of his life where it began. He spent many hours with family and friends, old and new, reminiscing and returning to the locations of his childhood.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Carole, his parents, Freeman and Edna (Larson) Locklin, sibling Carolyn Locklin Short Cohen, and daughter-in-law Noreen (Sterling) Locklin. Ed is survived by his sons Erik (Lisa) Locklin and Greg Locklin, sister Andrea (Jim) Hunt and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service of remembrance will be held for both Ed and Carole at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery, Scituate, Massachusetts. Donations in their memory can be made to The Scituate Animal Shelter at https://scituateanimalshelter.org/ or the NVNA and Hospice at https://www.nvna.org/. The family would like to thank all the staff of NVNA who took such good care of Ed during his time in hospice. Their kindness, professionalism, and devotion were unmatched.
