Edwin M. Albino, Jr., 89, of Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away on August 6, 2023. Ed, a sales executive in the printing industry by trade, started his journey in New Bedford, MA as the eldest son of five of Edwin M. Albino, Sr. and Ida May Crossley. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War, and completed his higher education at the Swain School of Design, a historic fine art institution now a part of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. There, he enjoyed boxing in the feather-weight division and playing basketball. He became an art instructor at the Tabor Academy, and eventually moved to New York, starting his commercial career as an art director at the Norcross Greeting Card Company where he met his wife, Zoe S. (Nemiroff) Albino. Ed thrived in the industry, eventually becoming the Executive Vice President of Sales for Tannagraphics, Inc., one of the largest New York-based printing companies of the pre-digital era.
Throughout his life, family meant to most to Ed, spending time as a softball coach, amateur guide at countless museums, guru kite flyer, and avid youth sports fan (any that his grandchildren played). He was also a slightly-over-the-top Boston Red Sox enthusiast. Ed was deeply passionate across a variety of interests, including fishing, sailing, shell collecting, reading, bird watching, beach going, and gardening. After retiring in Marstons Mills on Cape Cod, he earned a prestigious Master Gardener certification and became the President of the Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod.
Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zoe (known as Mady), his two children, Adam and Robin, his daughter-in-law and son-in-law Jennifer and Keith, and his grandchildren Samuel, Anya, Kyle, Ethan and Matthew. He was best known for his vibrant personality and story-telling, his unwavering commitment to those he loved, his all-around optimism, and his appreciation of nature. He was a tremendous (a word he used regularly to describe life) spouse, father, grandfather, role-model and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Ed’s life will be celebrated at 2:30am on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers or Shiva support, please consider a donation to The Nature Conservancy in Ed’s name.
