

Elizabeth W. (Glavin) Flaherty of Scituate, MA passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2024. Elizabeth was born in Boston, MA on October 20, 1937. She grew up in Abington, MA and Minot Beach in Scituate. She attended Holy Family School and Monsignor Patterson Diocesan Grammar School in South Boston before graduating from Scituate High School in 1955 and from Burdett Business School in 1957. Elizabeth was married to the late Thomas F. Flaherty. They married at St. Mark’s Church in Dorchester, MA on October 1, 1960.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Patricia Gill of Marshfield, Sean Flaherty of Boston, Mark Flaherty of Scituate, and Thomas Flaherty of Scituate, and her children-in-law Thomas Gill of Marshfield, Elizabeth Flaherty of Scituate, Elizabeth Marchand of Scituate, all of whom she loved as her very own. Also, Kimberley Karampatsos of Charlestown. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Fiona Flaherty, Brady (Laura) and Cory Gill, and Evan and Claire Flaherty and also her best friend Spatz (her cat). She is also survived by her sister Maureen Duffin of Weymouth, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Anne Taylor and her parents, Catherine and William Glavin.
Elizabeth worked as a telephone operator at the Country Way office of the Bell Phone Company, HB Humphrey/Alley and Richards Advertising Company where she was in newspaper ads for Beacon Wax Co. and as a hand model for Breck Shampoo which appeared on the back cover of popular magazines. Elizabeth supported her husband's business, Flaherty Plumbing for over 50 years. After her children were grown, she worked for the Scituate Public Schools for over 25 years. She was a loyal parishioner of St. Mary of the Nativity, an avid gardener, baker, and a friend to many. Anyone who knew Elizabeth will remember her smile, kindness, and acts of selflessness.
Visiting hours will be at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home at 382 First Parish Road in Scituate on Sunday October 20th from 3:00p – 6:00p. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Scituate on Monday October 21st at 10 o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Scituate Food Pantry, Pine Street Inn in Boston, or Norwell Visiting Nurses Association.
