KERN, Francina Bethel- age 90, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2018. Born in LaGrange, Georgia, she graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia with a degree in Liberal Arts. She met her husband in Indianapolis, Indiana and lived and worked in Painesville, Ohio before moving to Scituate in 1955.
She was a member of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church of Scituate for 52 years, where she served as Treasurer, Sunday school teacher, member of the Religious Education committee and Board of Trustee member. She was also a member of the First United Methodist church of Clearwater, Florida.
Dedicated to community service, she was a volunteer for Hospice of the South Shore and Habitat for Humanity in Florida, as well as an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years. She will always be remembered by her friends and family for her generous and loving heart.
She was the loving wife of the late Arthur Charles Kern, Jr. She leaves two children, Elly Kern and partner JJ Laprise and Charles and Karin Kern and four grandchildren, Niles and Kelly Tooher, Griffin Tooher, Phillip and Sara Kern and Andrea Kern and fiancé David Riedman. She was the cherished great- grandmother or Zavras and Ronin Tooher.
A funeral will be held on Saturday November 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
