Gerard E. (Gerry) McMorrow, age 74, of Scituate passed away unexpectedly on July 29th, 2025. Gerry was born on February 11, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts, the first of three sons of the late Gerard and Agnes (Swochak) McMorrow. He was raised in Jamacia Plain prior to the family moving to Scituate in 1958.
Gerry was a familiar fixture in Scituate Harbor where he was the owner of Scituate Music Center for 55 years. His impact on the South Shore music scene is undeniable and unforgettable. He was a caring soul and loved his life’s work at Scituate Music serving local and professional musicians including famous touring bands who visited his store. Gerry also spent many years as the lead guitarist in the band The Music Makers.
For two decades, Gerry was the producer of the annual Scituate Heritage Days Music Festival. South Shore music lovers will remember outstanding shows featuring national artists such as Eric Burdon, Leon Russell, Dickie Betts, Ten Years After, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Tavares, and countless others.
Gerry is survived by his brothers Robert (Bob) and his partner Karen Forrest of Marshfield and Richard (Rick) and his wife Linda of Grand Rapids, MI, formerly of Pembroke and his devoted nephews Christopher and wife Jessica McMorrow and Paul and wife Danielle McMorrow. He is also survived by five great-nephews and one great-niece as well as many cherished cousins and faithful friends who enriched his life.
Gerry thoroughly enjoyed his role as Uncle Gerry to Chris and Paul and had the pleasure of teaching them how to play drums and guitar. They each carry forward his love of music and musicianship. He never missed a holiday gathering with his family, even if he was habitually tardy! The banter around the dinner table always included Gerry’s passionate points of view, whether on history, politics, or the Red Sox.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on September 23, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Scituate Harbor Community Building, 44 Jericho Rd, Scituate to honor Gerry’s life and share the stories that made him unforgettable. A final jam session in his honor will also take place that evening.
Because Gerry always believed that a lack of money should never stand in the way of developing a love of music especially in children, the family has set up the Gerry McMorrow Memorial Music Fund to continue his legacy. Donations can be made c/o Rockland Trust Bank, 77 Front Street, Scituate, MA 02066.
