OBITUARY

Gerard Paul Sheehan

June 29, 1941May 17, 2020

Gerard P. “Rard” Sheehan, 78, of Scituate left this earth peacefully at home on May 17, 2020. Devoted father of Jenifer M. Sheehan of Scituate and the late Gregory J. Sheehan. He is also survived by Mary F. Sheehan and grandson Michael G. Sheehan both of Scituate.

Born in Boston he was raised in Savin Hill and was a graduate of Don Bosco Technical High School, Class of 1959. Gerard went on to earn a degree in engineering at The Franklin Institute of Boston. He proudly served for the United States Army and as a volunteer fire fighter on Nantucket Island. Rard later worked as an Electrical Engineer at The Boston Edison for many years.

Rard loved to tell stories, especially the one about the time he played baseball (and hit a couple homers) at Fenway Park. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, that was a tremendous honor. He also made sure everyone knew about his hole in one on the golf course! He loved the outdoors and when he wasn’t in his pool, you could often find him fishing or gardening. Rard always remained a child at heart who had a unique talent of connecting with everyone individually. His kind, gentle nature and ability to smile with his eyes will often be remembered. Those closest to Rard were blessed with his voice and his love to sing with or to anyone who would listen.

Gerard was the brother of John F. Sheehan of South Hampton, MA, Ann M Canavan of Burlington, MA, the late Mary Diebel, Elizabeth Bell, Margaret A. Cronin, and T. Joseph Sheehan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends who will always remember hikes in the Blue Hills, his snow button, playing in his pool, along with many other special moments.

A celebration of Gerard’s life will be announced at a later time.

JOHN SHEEHAN

May 22, 2020

As we sang to GERARD/ RARD, last June at his big, birthday, bash,
LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY OF GERARD PAUL SHEEHAN,
WHO WAS BORN IN SAVIN HILL,
THE YOUNGEST OF 7 IN THE SHEEHAN CLAN
AND HE PLAYED IN ST. WILLIAMS BAND....
(sing to the tune of Charlie on the MTA :)

One of the verses in the song, tells the story of RARD and his Big brother, John, taking a trip in Rard's new Falcon, to Wyoming. We set off very early on a sunny, summer day with no GPS, no cell phone, no food, no water.....
In other words, we were totally unprepared for a cross country trip.
We knew Wyoming was West and that the sun sets in the West, so we
followed the sun, day after day, stopping at roadside stands to
buy a hamburger and a frappe every day and sleeping in the car.
When we reached Omaha, we stopped to visit our cousin, Dorothy and her
family and to visit Eddie Hutchinson, who was studying to be a doctor.
We knew we didn't have enough time to keep driving, so we left the Falcon
with Eddie Hutch and we took a small plane from Omaha to Casper, Wyoming.
We had a wonderful time visiting our Aunt Margaret and our twin cousins,
Fr. Gene & Fr. Gerry, riding horses, going to a Rodeo, hunting ......
The return trip back to Omaha and then back to Savin Hill was
just as exciting. Two young brothers discovering a world outside
of Savin Hill.
RARD, thanks for memories of being a great brother and a great friend.
We love you and miss you.
