

DONAHUE, Grace Evelyn- Age 88, of West Roxbury and Scituate, passed away suddenly on September 26, 2025. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late George Welchlin and Jane Nicholson Welchlin. She was the loving wife of 63 years to Joseph P. Donahue. Beloved mother to Joseph Donahue and wife Paula of West Roxbury, MA, Robert Donahue and wife Patricia of Walpole, MA, Paula Donahue and husband Daniel Doherty of Scituate, MA, and Thomas Donahue and wife Kristin of Scituate, MA. Cherished grandmother of Delia and her husband Neil, Jake, Gabby, Victoria, Madilyn, Isabelle, Christian, Brendan, Mia, Joseph, Zack and Johnny; great grandchildren Cillian, Aoife, and Jack. She is also survived by her younger brothers, George Welchlin of Holbrook, MA and Daniel Welchlin and wife Emma Fleming of Raynham, MA and her brother-in-law Robert Donahue and wife Mashiko of Jersey City, NJ as well as many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her sisters Jane Redmond, Anne Foshey, Mary Lou Hallissey, and Paula Scanlon.
Grace and Joseph raised their four children in West Roxbury and summered in Scituate. Grace spent over 30 years as a Boston Public School Elementary Teacher, taking great joy in teaching her students to grow and succeed. She was a devout Roman Catholic; took great pleasure in attending her Lighthouse Walkers Book Club; was a dedicated member of The Daughters of the American Revolution; a committed member of the Retired Boston Teachers Union, and avid donor to many charities. In her younger years she was an avid tent camper and loved traveling the country with her husband Joe and children.
Grace lived with love and faith, opening her heart to family, friends, and everyone around her. Affectionately called Nana Grace, she had a way of becoming the Nana of every neighborhood she entered.
A visitation will take place on Thursday October 2, 2025 from 3pm-7pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday October 3, 2025 at 10am from St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Burial will be private.
