Grace Marie (Walsh) Mucci - 91, of Scituate, passed away peacefully, at her home surrounded by her loved ones on May 9, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Salvatore Mucci, with whom she shared 74 years of marriage.
Daughter of the late Lawrence and Grace (Doolan) Walsh. Mother of (the late) Theresa Kerfien (husband Darren) of Quincy, Regina Kerfien (husband Devin) of Quincy, Nancy Blauss (husband the late Bill) of Stoughton, Joanne Penwarden (husband the late Ray) of Quincy, Victoria Bifano (husband Joseph) of Dedham, and Sandra Mucci of Quincy.
Loving “Nana” and “Nonnie” to her cherished 9 grandchildren (Darren, Audra, Joe, Danny, Patrick, Liz, Tim, Alex and Ben), 11 great-grandchildren (Christine, Brian, James, Emily, Samantha, Kylee, Adam, Danny, Joshua, Jacob and Charlotte) and 3 great-great grandchildren (Greyson, Griffin, and Gabriel).
An Irish catholic girl growing up in Dorchester her path towards becoming a “Nonnie” began one day when she met a cute Italian boy named Salvatore on a fateful walk around Ronan Park. Daring to strike out against the odds, young and in love Grace and Salvy created a loving home, sacrificing along the way for their family. Spending a lifetime together with a devotion many people only dream about.
As her family grew to include her six daughters, Grace entered the workforce in the early 1970s. Her intelligence and natural charisma allowed her to flourish throughout her career, working on the political scene in Boston, then for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and rising to the office of Union President with the National Associate of Government Employees. With NAGE she advocated for the “average worker” many of whom were working-moms, a position dear to her heart. Being a mother to her 6 girls was the role she cherished most from the moment her first sweet baby Terry arrived until her last breath here on earth. She was a role model, inspiration and loving presence to more than just her daughters, as a grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt and friend she provided sound advice, guidance, and sometimes a firm hand to everyone she cared about. If Grace loved you, she loved you every step of the way. She was a devout Catholic and had a pure beautiful faith and love for Jesus. Often reminding you to “stay close to Jesus”. She remembered all in her prayers.
Among her many talents, she enjoyed travelling, painting, gardening and crocheting. If you are lucky to have a Grace Mucci created hat on your head or a warm scarf around your neck, cherish it, as she truly put her love and prayers into each stitch. Her beautiful yard was a source of joy to her and to many, as she delighted in seeing flowers blooming, and her painted bird houses filled with new life. Grace took pride in creating a beautiful and welcoming home.
Always generous Grace was the consummate hostess. Gatherings at the Mucci household for holidays, birthdays, craft days, her prayer group, JMJ club or just sitting and enjoying a cup of tea were a place where she made you feel welcomed. There was never a shortage of good stories, laughter or good food, lots of good food. These gatherings often included her cherished siblings, Patricia Nowacki, Cynthia Bonavito, and the late Lawrence “Rusty” Walsh, her many sisters-in-law, brothers in law, and nieces and nephews.
