Guido Joseph Risi of Scituate, MA, age 92, passed peacefully on April 19, 2021 with his daughter Deborah at his side. Guido was born on Sept 10, 1928 in Quincy, MA to Giuseppe and Erminia Risi of Quincy, MA, formerly of Monte San Biagio, Latina Province, Italy. Guido embraced his Italian heritage.
Guido was predeceased by his grandparents, parents and two older brothers, Anio and Irvino Risi.
Guido is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois (O'Brien), three children and 7 grandchildren: James Risi of Franklin, MA, his wife Jennifer and their children Bryan and Joseph, Deborah Risi of Scituate, MA and her children Joseph and Nina, and Eugene Risi of Essex, VT, his wife Mary Jo and their children Matthew (Karissa), Adam and Katherine.
Guido earned his undergraduate degree at Bridgewater Teachers College, MA (1954) and his M.Ed from Boston University. He spent his early career (1959 to 1977) working as a 5th grade teacher and then school principal at Jenkins Elementary, Wampatuck Elementary and Hatherly Elementary, which he opened in 1963. He went on to work for another 12 1/2 years in the Cohasset, MA school system as Administrative Assistant for the Superintendant.
Guido was naturally inquisitive and committed to life-long learning. His passions included drawing, photography, music and science. He was active in the Catholic Cursillo movement and served on a working committee of the Massachusetts Advisory Council on Education, tasked with revamping science education in elementary schools in Massachusetts.
Guido cherished being surrounded by his school's students. He loved greeting them by name and with a warm smile. He often said that they were the reason he remained a principal.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 27, from 9:00am – 10:00am at St. Mary of the Nativity Catholic Church in Scituate, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 10:00 am. at St. Mary of the Nativity Catholic Church in Scituate, MA, followed by private interment at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
