CALLANAN, Helen V. – of Scituate, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 6, 2018. For 58 years, she was the loving wife of James F. Callanan, who predeceased her nine years ago. Her life centered on her family. Proud mother of Catherine Callanan of Oakdale, CA, James Callanan and wife Sofi Nevakivi of Brooklyn, NY, John Callanan and wife Betsy of Scituate, MA, Cynthia Callanan and husband John Berg of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara Callanan and husband Geoffrey Ohland of Camden, ME, Mary Callanan Mitchell of Royal Oak, MI, Joseph Callanan and wife Sara Shanahan of Wellesley, MA. Loving sister of Rosemary West of Norwood, MA and the late Marie Morris and Anne Gorham, of South Boston, MA.

Devoted grandmother of 17 grandchildren: Erin Worrall Tigner of Oakdale, CA, Christopher Worrall of Oakland, CA, Cleo Nevakivi-Callanan of Brooklyn, NY and Cpl. Mika S. Nevakivi-Callanan of 3rd Marine Air Wing of Camp Pendleton, CA, Maire Callanan of New York, NY, John Callanan Jr. of Boston, MA, Shannan Callanan of Scituate, MA, Calley Orodyne of Washington, DC, Sharman Ordoyne of Brooklyn, NY, Louque Ordyone of St. Paul, MN, John Rudy Ordoyne of Washington, DC, Harris Ohland of Austin, TX, Lila Ohland of Camden, ME, Caroline and Olivia Mitchell of Royal Oak, MI, Grace and Nora Callanan of Wellesley and 2 great-grandsons, James Tigner of Oakdale, CA and Jasper Worrall of Oakland, CA. Beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to her companions, Kathy Howe of Scituate and Dottie Cabozzi of Pembroke. Helen was the daughter of the late Walter and Barbara Dunford of South Boston.

She graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston and married the love of her life in 1950. James and Helen moved their young family to Scituate in 1961. They established Cal’s TV Sales and Service which they operated together for many years in Scituate Harbor. Helen had a deep appreciation for the town of Scituate: its beauty, the people and all it offers. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and welcomed all into her home. She liked taking trips with her husband that included visits to her children and grandchildren across the country. She was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours on Thursday, May 10, from 4 PM-8 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. Funeral Mass on Friday, May 11 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s of Nativity, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.

Growing up you watched me when my sister Carolyn was born. It was a great summer. I was only 8 years old. Labor Day Weekend was the best time as a family we ever had in our lives. Going to miss you Aunt Helen. Say hi to everybody up their in Heaven.
