

PHILLIPS, Howard Donly (Deacon) II – 85, of Scituate, formerly of Norwell, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 15, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Jessie T. (Powers) Phillips.
Born in Scituate, he attended Norwell Public Schools and went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. There he attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and earned a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Combat Medical Badge. He had worked at the Satuit Bowlaway in Scituate for many years and most recently had worked for Service Master.
He was the devoted father of Marie (Phillips) Thompson, and her husband Ken of Hanover, and H. Catherine (Driscoll) Lauria and her husband Jeff, of Marshfield. He is predeceased by his son Howard D. “Howie” Phillips, III.
Cherished grandfather of Michael Bergman, Robert Hennebury, Dominique Lauria, Carissa Lauria and his great grandchildren Reese Bergman and Sara Pearl Hennebury.
He was the loving brother of the late Franklin Phillips.
He was the former husband of Jane Smith of Cohasset.
Deacon enjoyed trips to Twin Rivers Casino and watching his beloved Yankees.
Funeral arrangements will take place privately.
