Hamacher, Hubert G.- Age 93, of Scituate, passed away May 17, 2018. He was the loving husband of 66 years to Anna Mae (nee Lepley) Hamacher. Only son to the late Peter and Mary(nee Gedig) Hamacher. Beloved father of Susan Hamacher of Colchester VT, Mark Hamacher, his wife Eileen of Scituate, Anne McMonagle, her husband Thomas of MA, David Hamacher, his wife Cathy of Hopkinton, MA, Mary Beth Curran of Nashua NH, LT. Col. Paul Hamacher U.S.A.F. (ret.), his wife Belen of Rolla, MO, MSGT. Steven Hamacher U.S.A.F. (ret.), his wife Brenda of Sumter, SC, James P. Hamacher of Scituate and John Hamacher of Scituate. Cherished grandfather to 20 and great grandfather to 9. He is survived by his sisters Edna Broadstreet of Mooresville, IN and Mary Evelyn Herbertz of Indianapolis, IN. Hubert was predeceased by his sister Virginia Hamacher. He was the cherished brother in law to Mary Jane Brickach, Barbara Crowell-Roy, Carol Lepley and the late Stephen Lepley. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews.
He attended local primary Catholic schools before transferring to St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary Minor at Hinsdale, Illinois after his freshman year at Indianapolis High School in 1938. Joined Navy in Fall of 1943 and served nearly three years. After basic training, he served as a AMM2c at Pensacola NAS and Ellyson Field in Florida during WWII.
He Attended Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana and received his AB in Biology and Chemistry after two years. He was a member and undergraduate President of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. He received his M.S. in Anatomy at St. Louis University in 1951, and attended the University of Cincinnati as a Fellow in the Anatomy Department. He retired from Massachusetts General Hospital as a Chemistry Lab Supervisory in 1985.
Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, Communicant at St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Scituate Harbor, where he served as a Eucharist Minister and as a Senior Altar Server. He Served on the Building Committee of St Pius X Church in Rock Island Illinois.
He was active on many local county and state boards and associations and has authored By-Laws for Massachusetts Parents of Blind & Handicapped Organization. Authored By-Laws for Friends of the Commission on Disabilities for Town of Scituate Revised By-Laws for South Shore Association for Retarded Citizens. Chairman, Friends of the Scituate Commission on Disabilities. He was a driver for the Town of Scituate Council on Aging.
Cast Member, Board Member, Director Set Builder in many local plays and productions in Scituate, Quincy and with the Cohasset Dramatic Club. His most notable performance as Teddy Roosevelt in Arsenic and Old Lace.
A visitation will take place on Monday May 21, 2018 from 4pm-8pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at 10am from St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate.
