Joan Marie (O’Neill) Harrison – longtime Scituate resident, passed away on the morning of January 18, 2018 just weeks shy of turning 94 years old. She was the beloved wife of 44 years to the late John J. Harrison, Sr.
Devoted mother of Martin T. Harrison and his wife Kathleen of Knob Noster, MO, John J. Harrison and his wife Gayle of Northborough and the late Mary Eileen Harrison.
Born and raised in Bloomfield, NJ, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy T. and Lucy A. (Carroll) O’Neill. She graduated from Jersey City Medical Center in 1945 as a Registered Nurse and went on to enlist in the United States Army, where she served as a 1st Lieutenant and worked as an Operating Room Nurse.
She was a member of Scituate Board of Health and Scituate Etrusco. She was very active in St. Mary of the Nativity Church and their Ladies’ Sodality. She was an avid bridge player and always kept score. Maintaining these records years later, Joan could always recollect the players and scores from hundreds of bridge games. She retired from nursing and traveled the world with her husband, visiting many countries, going on cruises and spending time visiting her daughter who travelled with the US Air Force. Though she loved traveling the world, her heart always remained in Scituate and she was very proud of her residence here.
Above all of her interests, she loved her role as Grandma to her cherished grandchildren Jennifer Harrison, Megan Ritchie, Elizabeth Harrison, Katherine Harrison, John J. Harrison, III and Margaret Harrison and great grandchildren Judah and Aspen Ritchie.
She was the dear sister of Aileen Corbalis of NJ and the late LeRoy T. O’Neill, Jr. Joan is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, wonderful friends and bridge partners who will forever remember her.
