Joan E. Martino

A woman of strong Roman Catholic faith, Joan was known for her quick wit, great sense of humor, and fiercely independent spirit. Sharp until the very end, she was always herself and brought laughter to those around her.

Joan worked at New England Telephone in Boston for many years and continued working part-time locally until the age of 90. Later in life, Joan earned her college degree from Quincy Junior College, an accomplishment that meant a great deal to her. Her independence was an important part of who she was, and she was proud to remain in her own home until the very end of her life.

She enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders, working on puzzles, knitting many baby blankets for various charitable organizations, and the companionship of her beloved cats.

Joan was the mother of five children—three daughters and two sons—and the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She devoted countless hours caring for her grandchildren and loved spending time with her family, who brought her so much happiness and joy.

Joan also enjoyed the friendships she formed with the kind volunteers who delivered meals to her and became a special part of her days.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Saint Mary of the Nativity, 1 Kent Street, Scituate Harbor, Massachusetts 02066. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church beginning at 10:15 a.m. to remember Joan and celebrate her life before the Mass.
