Joan A. Wilhelms

Joan A. Wilhelms passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 93. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 63 years George Wilhelms Jr. in 2017 and was the daughter of George W. Alber Sr. and Elsa Storz Alber.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ she grew up in Union, NJ. Following high school, she graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, New York City, and began her career in a secretarial position before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. She later resumed her career as an elementary and high school secretary. She and George lived in Union, NJ where they raised their family. In retirement they moved to Rossmoor in Monroe Twp, NJ, where she enjoyed playing golf, and being an avid bridge player. She was a lifelong pianist, playing for her family and the Sunday School at church, and was active in her church wherever she lived.

Joan and George enjoyed traveling to many spots around the world and were always on the road to see their children/grands/family/friends. They loved being present for childcare, holidays, birthdays, picnics and projects around the house.

In their later years they moved to Linden Ponds, Hingham, MA, where she continued to play bridge. In Joan’s final years she resided in the Memory Care Community at Linden Ponds.

Joan is the mother of Joyce Wilhelms Barthold (Joe, deceased), and George III (Laura), and 7 grandchildren, Hal (Rachel), Douglas (Sara), Meredith (Max) Barthold, and George IV, Julia, Douglas, and Ella Wilhelms, and 4 great-granddaughters Anne, Lula, Diana and Jo.

She is also survived by her brother George Alber Jr. (Ellie), and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Russell Alber (Ginni).
