João Oliveira was born 89 years ago, on January 5, 1925 in Feijoal Fogo Cape Verde. He was most known in the community and among relatives as “Nhô Djoné”. He was married for 60 years to Maria Oliveira that preceded him in death. They lived in Fogo before immigrating to United States in 1979.
João is survived by 4 sons, 4 daughters, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends. He was a great father and provider. He worked hard in ensuring the wellbeing and making his family united was of great importance. He always looked after his children and loved his grandchildren. He passed on many good values and left happy memories. He was a very caring person that helped many people in many ways. He will be truly missed by all those he leaves behind and who had the honor of knowing him.
João was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witnesses on November, 15 1997. He showed his strong love for Jehovah God by his faithful life and strong faith on Jehovah’s promise of a life free from suffering, sickness and death (Rev 21:3, 4). He was comforted by the bible’s promise of resurrection to live forever on a paradise on earth. He had joy to share with others these promises and his faith. One of his favorite bible scriptures was psalms 37:29. “The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.”
Through the families journey with João he touched us in many ways and taught us all life lessons, that we all will carry and pass on through generations to come.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 3rd from 4-8PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4th at Kingdom Hall of Jehova Witness, 29 Parkman St, Dorchester, MA 02122 at 11AM followed by burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan.
