John P. Barbosa

John P. Barbosa, 71, of Scituate, formerly of East Bridgewater and Pembroke, passed away on July 19, 2019 at the South Shore Hospital. He was the beloved husband of nearly 50 years to Catherine G. (Monteiro) Barbosa.

Born and raised in Fogo, Cabo Verde, he was the son of the late Arnaldo and Bibia (Monteiro) Barbosa.

Devoted father of Jennifer J. Zarrella and her husband Eric of Easton and the late Ann Margaret Barbosa and Joshua J. Barbosa. He was the cherished grandfather of 3 grandchildren.

Loving brother of Mario Barbosa (Maria) of Pembroke, Candida Barbosa-Pinto (Ulysses) of Praia, Cabo Verde and the late Carlos Barbosa, Tony Barbosa, Homero Barbosa and Osvaldo Barbosa. He is also survived by his dear mother in law Benvinda Monteiro of Scituate and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 4-8 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

I met mr. Barbosa at davita dialysis in Weymouth. I thought John was a great gentleman and I considered him a good friend of mine. It was hard going to dialysis 3 days a week but seeing his smiling face made it a little easier he will be sorely missed. RIP my friend

I met mr. Barbosa at the davita dialysis center in Weymouth we were both patients. He was always a gentleman to me as we both knew what each other was going through. RIP John you were a good friend and I certainly will miss our friendship
