Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Charles and Delia (Duggan) Flynn. After graduating from Brookline High's class of 1951, John served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. After his service, he began a distinguished career with the Boston Edison which lasted for over 40 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife Mary spent countless winters in Fort Myers, Florida. John was an avid golfer, story teller, and Boston sports aficionado. He had an incredible photographic memory, leaving family and friends with many detailed stories that they will forever hold dear. In his later years, he cherished his trips to the Bridgewaye restaurant with his brother-in-law Vinny and his daughter Michelle. He wore many hats but the one he will forever be most proud of is his role as a Papa to his four grandchildren, passing on a legacy of family, sports and celebration.
