The son of John P. and Catherine (O’Rourke) Pow, Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor “Ellie” (McLaughlin) Pow.
Jack was born and raised in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. A Class of 1951 graduate of Boston Latin School, Jack remained a dedicated alumni and supporter for his entire life. Jack served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves before enlisting in the United States Army and was assigned to the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. After his service to our Country, Jack entered into the family printing business, John P. Pow Company in South Boston, retiring in his eighties and turning his reins over to his sons. He was a frequent patron at Jimmy’s Harborside and Anthony’s Pier 4 for many years. Jack never met a stranger. With a firm handshake and grin on his face, he would question anyone he met, until a common denominator was discovered. Jack and Ellie raised their family in Scituate and enjoyed weekends and summers in their home in Harwichport. His first order of business upon arriving at the Cape Cod home was to raise the American flag on the deck. It became a symbol to all that “Jack was in the house”. Jack’s greatest love was for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his four sons and their families, John F. Jr. and Jacque (Couture) Pow of Milton, MA, David K. and Misti (Dragano) Pow of Annapolis, MD, Frederick C. Pow of Weymouth, MA and Terence J. and Jeanne (Stewart) Pow of Duxbury, MA.
Jack was blessed with much loved Grandchildren, John and Jeremiah Pow, Sophia Pow, Jason and Ben Fitzgerald, John, Thomas, Leah and Kate Pow as well as, Great Grandchildren Zarah Lindquist, Rylee, Aislinn-Rose, Leeson and Laydell Pow and Destiny Damacena.
Jack also found great joy in his Grand-Dogs Winnie, Brian, Mabel-Mae, Mikey, Jane, Libby and (his favorite) Percy Pow.
Jack was also predeceased by his sisters Florence Elliot, Dorothy Finneran and Jean Dwyer.
