ACHILLE, Joseph Michael – 80, of Massachusetts, formerly of Lakeshore Drive in Hallandale Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 17, 2018.
Born in Cohasset, MA, the son of the late Joseph and Louise (DeSario) Achille, Joe attended Hingham High School where he excelled in football, hockey, and baseball and has since been inducted into the Hingham High School Sports Hall of Fame. After graduating in 1956, Joe joined the US Army and while stationed in Germany, starred on the USAREUR Stuttgart Chiefs baseball team where he honed his ability to hit the baseball. This skill he later passed on to his children and grandchildren with afternoons of coaching in the backyard. Upon returning to Massachusetts, Joe earned his pilot's license and was hired by Eastern Airlines. Flying for Eastern from 1964 until 1991 was the greatest joy in Joe's professional life. An accomplished golfer, Joe was an active member of Cohasset Golf Club. He was also known as a skilled card player who taught his opponents at the West Corner Men's Club many-a-lesson. Other interests included cooking, tending his vegetable garden, and spending time with his family and friends - these were the things that brought 'Captain Joe' his greatest happiness.
Devoted father of Andrea Achille Seddon and her husband Charles of Hollis, NH and of Joe Achille and his wife Vikki of Scituate, MA.
