

Joseph V. Henderson , age 71, of Scituate, formerly of Dorchester, passed away unexpectedly November 8, 2010 at South Shore hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Joseph was raised in Dorchester and graduated in 1958 from Mission Church High School. He was employed at Bethleham Steel Co., from 1958-1963 in the Hull Design Department, and for 35 years was a Chief Guarantee Engineer at General Dynamics in Quincy, Ma. He coached in the Scituate youth hockey program for 15 years and was a charter member of the Scituate Jaycees since 1966. He was an avid lobsterman and enjoyed spending time on his boat with his family and wintering in Cocoa Beach, FL. Joseph was the beloved husband of Phyllis J. Henderson of 50 years, devoted father of five children, Joseph D. Henderson and his wife Florence of East Sandwich, James V. Henderson and his wife Wendi of Scituate, Phyllis J. Keif and her husband Scott of Holbrook, Suzanne M. Soares of Scituate, and his late daughter Jean M. Hutchinson of Hingham and many loving grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Katherine Cullenberg of Farmington, Maine and Julie Devlin and her husband Paul of Hingham and a brother Anthony Henderson and his wife Joan of Weymouth and many nieces, nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Nativity, Scituate, MA. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery, Scituate, MA.
