

Sammartino-Joseph A. of Scituate passed away at home on January 12, 2012 age 94. Joe is the loving husband of 69 years to Anna M. (Strazzula). Born and raised in Roslindale, Joe was a graduate of English H.S. of Boston, and a “Golden Eagle” graduate of Boston College. Along with his brother in-laws, Matthew and Philip, Joe started a business; Phillips Candy House, and went on to develop the Ramada Inn, Comfort Inn, Phillips/Freeport Tavern, Boston Bowl, and Deadwood Café all located on Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester. Joe spent many years residing in Belmont before moving to Scituate over 30 years ago. Since moving to Scituate, Joe and his wife Anna spent the winter seasons residing in Naples, FL. Joe was a Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis, a WWII Navy Veteran, and an avid golfer belonging to Hatherly C.C. in Scituate. Joe is survived by his wife; Anna, two children; Mary Ann Nagle and her husband Patrick of Cohasset, and Joseph A. Jr. and his wife Karen of Scituate, one brother; Francis Sammartino of FL, 8 granchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is brother of the late William Martin, and Lillian Fuccillo. Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate on Monday, January 16th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home from 2-6PM on Sunday. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Scituate.
