Daughter to the late Joseph Rodrigues and Isabelle (Alves) Perry, Jo grew up in Somerville where she met her one true love, Clifford P. Hutchinson. Together since middle school, they married in 1952 and had five children. After tragically losing him in 1973, she fearlessly kept the family together and raised the children on her own. Mum/Mama Hutch/Josie was also a surrogate mother and confidante to many from coast to coast. She treasured her time as a nanny for several years to Matthew and Nathaniel Meyer who now well into adulthood, still call her “Mommy Jo.” She held numerous jobs throughout her life from singing with a band to executive assistant at Dunkin’ Donuts Corporate Headquarters. Jo loved all holidays, singing and dancing and she was famous for her jitterbug at all the family functions. She delighted in irritating her children by turning everything, especially chores, into a song.
Jo found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren and the many, many people she took under her wing throughout the years…especially those of “22½ Fourth Ave.” She centered her life around all of us and was the glue that held us together.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband Clifford P. Hutchinson, her son Clifford P. Hutchinson Jr. and her daughter Laurie A. (Hutchinson) Kelly. She leaves behind her sister Marie McManus with her sons Patrick and Bruce of Franklin, her daughters Terese Hutchinson of Middleboro, Maureen (Hutchinson) Moore and her husband Michael of Austin, TX and Julie (Hutchinson) Wilder and her husband Glenn of Hanover. She is already very missed by her beloved grandchildren; Brooke Wilder and husband Darren Domingos, Maxwell Kelley and his wife Chloe Kelley, Alexa Wilder and husband Malcolm Wilder, Catherine (Moore) Egan and her husband Sean Egan, Jack Moore, Jake Wilder and by her many nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by all she touched with her exceedingly generous heart.
A celebration of her life will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA on January 30, 2025, at 9 am followed by a gathering at the Wilder family home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jo’s name to a children's charity of your choice.
