Kishan "Kenny" Rampersad Sr.

He was the beloved husband of Maria “Elsie” Ribeiro Rampersad, with whom he shared over 50 beautiful years of marriage. Elsie was the love of his life. Their devotion to one another was evident to everyone who knew them, and Kenny treasured every moment they spent together.

Kenny was the devoted father of Jessica Rampersad Rosa and her husband, the late Ja Rosa; Kishan Rampersad Jr; and Shalisa Segaran and her husband, Jiva Segaran. He was the proud grandfather of Diana, Melanye, Jesiah, Jiva, Gianna, Anisha, Eliana, Jason, Micah, Dominic, and Malu, and the cherished great grandfather of Yadiel.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Kenny immigrated to the United States in 1970 to pursue an education and build a better future for his family. He received a degree in accounting at Newbury Junior College. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved, he achieved the American dream. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, celebrating every milestone with joy.

Kenny enjoyed a successful career as an accountant at Pioneer Investments, retiring in 2016. He later continued sharing his talents through bookkeeping for a close family friend’s business. Known for his kind heart and easygoing nature, Kenny hoped to be remembered as someone who was funny, humble, and never materialistic. He believed life’s greatest riches were found in family, friendships, and shared experiences—not possessions. His advice was simple: “Live life for yourself, not for others.” One of his favorite sayings, “Don’t hang your hat where you cannot reach it,” reminded others to stay grounded, live within their means, and avoid unnecessary burdens. Above all, he encouraged people to tell those they love that they love them.

Kenny had a personality that was impossible to forget. He loved dancing to Indian and Trinidadian music, and if a good song was playing, you could count on him to be enjoying every minute of it. He looked forward to playing cards, where there was always plenty of laughter and friendly competition. He was also a wonderful cook who took pride in preparing meals for family and friends—his delicious curry chicken was a favorite. At home, he enjoyed keeping a neat yard, often found outside with his leaf blower making sure everything looked just right.

He loved cricket, soccer, traveling, and spending time with his family. He especially treasured watching the World Cup and cheering for his favorite teams. One of his most memorable adventures was traveling with his family to Houston, Texas, to attend the World Cup match between Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia. He found peace in nature and encouraged others to appreciate the beauty of trees and the simple gifts of life.

Kenny was predeceased by his parents, Sonnylal and Dolly Rampersad, and his brother, Suresh. He was the beloved brother of Keshore, Chandra, Jyo, Radica, Shammy, Doll, and Rajin. He will also be deeply missed by his Uncle Boysie, his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and his sisters‑ and brothers‑in‑law, all of whom cherished the special relationship they shared with him.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, August 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home, followed by a Hindu funeral service at the funeral home. Kenny will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, humility, faith, and devotion to family will live on in the many lives he touched.
