Leo was the son of the late James and Sophie Liatsos who, as children, had come to the US from Epirus, Greece.
Leo was the loving husband to Kenna Liatsos for 53 years, adoring father and father-in-law to Susan Kashmanian (Matt) and Jill Johnson (Marc), and beloved Papou to his four grandchildren, Zachary, Daniel, Caroline and Alex. He cared deeply for his brother, Arthur Liatsos, and was a devoted brother-in-law to Sharon Mitchell, John Kelly and Kim Harriman. He was a loving Godfather to Annie Harriman, and a proud, caring Uncle to 11 nieces and nephews. Leo had always demonstrated his steadfast love to his late mother-in-law, Evelyn Murphy, who loved him dearly.
Leo graduated from Brockton High School in 1963, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University in 1968 and his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Denver in 1970.
His career working with children and adolescents was Leo’s great joy. He was a teacher and athletic director for 22 years in the Hull Public Schools before accepting the position of athletic director and assistant principal at Scituate High School. After 8 years in Scituate, Leo went on to become principal at Franklin High School and then principal at West Bridgewater Junior Senior High School before retiring in 2002.
Leo also enjoyed engaging with young children with various abilities and from diverse backgrounds. He founded Camp Mardayca in Marshfield, a summer camp for children with developmental disabilities. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a natural gift for generating joy and laughter among children, whether creating a silly game in the moment or working together in organized play. Regardless of his audience, Leo’s inner joy and positive presence were reassuring and validating for all.
His deep spirituality was seen in Leo’s kindness, generosity and acceptance of all people. Leo’s unconditional love was a gift to his family and friends, a gift that will never die. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. May his memory be eternal.
