Leroy (Roy) Bailey was born in 1929 to Franklin Earl & Hanna (Happle) Bailey. Roy was the third of six children: Frank, Mae (Gill), Mary (Antonacci), Earl Bailey, and Mitch Bailey, all predeceased. He grew up in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY. He graduated from Bay Shore High School as his class valedictorian and attended Hofstra University.
He was a champion boxer and wrestler, and an avid percussionist. Roy’s talent, intelligence, and dedication to hard-work began as a young child assisting his dad on the family chicken farm, worked in his early teens as a dock attendant for the Bayshore-Fire Island Ferry, and eventually served as President for three national Store Fixture Manufacturing companies. He continued working well into his 80’s as a sought-after industry consultant.
He was an army veteran honorably serving the intelligence sector in Alaska during the Korean War followed by an 8-year stint in the Army Reserves. Throughout his life Roy Bailey traveled extensively and lived in New York, Alaska, Connecticut, Utah, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Massachusetts.
Roy was committed to his community and church and served for many years as lay leader of the Seaford United Methodist Church, and as a Boy Scout Leader.
Roy’s first wife was the late Marilyn Bailey, the mother of his four children. Roy’s second wife, Sandra Lee Bailey, who passed away early in 2024, was his most devoted soul mate, business colleague and life partner. By far, Roy was most proud of his beloved children who meant the world to him: Daniel Bailey and his wife, Diane of Towson MD, James Bailey and his wife, Helyn of Scituate MA, Thomas Bailey and his partner, Laurie Artruc of So Windsor CT, and Nancy Anne Ottmann of Scottsdale AZ. He further leaves behind seven grandchildren: James, Michael, Alicia, Kyle, Evan, Erick & Sasha, and 6 great grandchildren (Bradley, William, Wesley, Liam, Vera & little Mateo (on the way).
After a long and productive life Roy passed away at 95 years old, surrounded by his family. We love you and miss you but know that you are in God’s grace and care.
